Peter Buchanan’s driving passion is to work with people who can make a difference in our community and in our world. He has spent much of his professional life working with presidents, CEOs and business owners who are committed to growth and development.

Peter is often recognized as a leader and innovator in the fields of executive coaching and management and leadership development. In his career, he has spent in excess of 30,000 hours coaching and mentoring hundreds of senior executives, business owners, CEOs and Presidents. He has literally facilitated thousands of hours of meetings and completed in excess of 500 team development sessions. He is often called upon to help business leaders deal with challenging people and interpersonal issues.

Background & Experience

In his earlier business experiences, Peter ran a division of a public Company Extendicare Canada. Later, as an entrepreneur, he raised venture capital and established a successful business in the security industry, and owned and operated a manufacturing business. In 1984, he founded the consulting firm Management Transitions Ltd.

The company specializes in management and leadership development, executive coaching, group facilitation, team development and consulting in the area of organizational culture.

TEC Canada Leadership

Peter is the National Director of Chair Development for TEC — The Executive Committee, the world's oldest and largest executive forum for presidents and business owners. He launched the organization in Eastern Canada in 1987, he is a Master Chair and has received 20 Chairman Excellence awards, twice been named TEC Chairman of the Year and in 2014 was the winner of the Don Cope Award which is the highest award given annually to one chair in the International TEC Vistage community.

Education & Credentials

Peter holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and his Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation, achieved during his time at Woods Gordon. He has completed training as a psychotherapist and specialization requirements for a degree in Cultural Anthropology. One of his mentors was Dr. Frederic Hudson, founder of The Hudson Institute.

Teaching & Mentorship

Peter's teaching experience includes designing and teaching leadership in the MBA program of Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. He also finds great joy in coaching and mentoring MBA students when his schedule allows.

Personal

Peter lives with his wife Margaret, a psychotherapist and teacher, and his dogs Rudy and Annie in a home he built on Lake Simcoe, north of Toronto. They have five grown children and 5 grandchildren; and share a passion for personal growth and travel.
